2011 Porsche 911 (997.2) Carrera 4S exterior photo

The 997.2 Porsche 911 is one of the best 911s—ever! Viewed from the lens of the present, the 997 strikes the sweet spot of size, weight, power, and old-school Porsche goodness. By the 997, Porsche had redeemed itself from the transgressions of the 996 (we love 996s at Glen Shelly), but had not model-crept the 911 into the realm of the GT car that followed with the 991. Released for the 2009 model year, the 997.2’s direct-fuel-injected engine suffered none of the bore scoring or IMS issues of the 997.1. And thanks to a global economic crash, 997.2 production numbers were remarkably lower than 997.1s. The 7-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) dual-clutch automated manual transmission premiered with the 997.2, the first gearbox worthy of replacing the 6-speed manual. The 997.2 Carrera 4S (C4S) received the 3.8-liter DFI engine, which was good for four seconds flat to sixty miles per hour. It also got Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) as standard, 13-inch brakes, and Turbo wheels. As far as a sports car that is a jack of all trades, the Carrera 4S is the sweet spot in the sweet spot of the 997.2.

Summary

 exterior photo

This 2011 997.2 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S, finished in Platinum Silver Metallic over Sand Beige Leather, is a wonderful example of a 997.2. With 70,800 miles, it is in excellent condition but can still be enjoyed without the guilt—the best kind of 911. In addition to the standard Carrera 4S kit, the options list includes the 7-speed PDK gearbox, Sport Chrono Plus package, Carbon interior package, Bose High-End sound, and 19-inch Carrera 2 wheels. It was originally delivered in Florida, and found its way to Colorado in 2016 with 48K, where it has remained under several owners. It first crossed the hangar floor at Glen Shelly in early 2023, and we are selling for the current owner on consignment. The Carfax shows regular maintenance and detailed service records under the current and most recent owners. Recent notable maintenance includes the front suspension replacement, rear brakes, and the PDK service at 61K miles. The Carfax is clean, but the records show both fender liners being replaced and some paint correction due to road debris in July of 2022. As it sits, this is an excellent example of a 997.2 C4S, one of the best Porsche 911s for the money.

The Platinum Silver paint is in good condition and highlights the fluid lines of the 997. Flaws consist of small paint chips and scratches on the leading edges, with larger scuffing on the underside of the front bumper cover. There is a small paint scuff on the passenger side mirror and another below the driver’s door. The paint is original, gauging between 3 and 4 mils. All trim is in good shape, except for a crack in the black plastic insert inside the front bumper. There is no rust, and all VIN/warning stickers are present and legible. The windshield light has pitting; the rest of the glass is pristine. The headlights, taillights, and indicators all function as they should and are in good condition. The Carrera 2 wheels have minor imperfections; the right rear has a small spot of curb rash. They are wrapped in Yokohama Advan Apex tires with 7 to 9/32s remaining and 2019 and 2021 DOT dates.

Interior

 interior photo

The Sand Beige leather interior is in good condition. There are no stains, or foul odors, and it has never been smoked in. The headliner and door cards are very nice; typical 997 wear areas like the door trim and center console have only minor wear. The lower door sill has moderate scuffing from entry and egress. The steering wheel leather is soft with minor wear. The dashboard is crack-free, the instrument cluster is fully functional, and so are the pop-out cup holders. The carbon fiber trim is in excellent shape. All interior lighting, lock switches, and other power switches work correctly. Climate control blows hot and cold when needed with no foul odors. There are no dead pixels or damage in any of the LCD screens. The Bose stereo system sounds fantastic, and the 997.2 PCM is a significant improvement over the 997.1. The front seats have some discoloration and moderate bolster wear. The rear seats are in fantastic shape. The front trunk compartment is stain free, contains no foul odors, no damage, and every component of the trunk assembly is in place and undamaged. The owners’ manual, two keys, and records binder are included in the sale. One key has a broken keyless entry button.

Mechanical

 engine photo

This 997.2 Carrera 4S has had excellent care and maintenance throughout its lifetime. The 3.8-liter engine fires on command, idles smoothly, and does not smoke or leak. There is no excessive carbon buildup on the exhaust tips (which we never clean on any 911). The PDK transmission shifts correctly and was recently serviced at the appropriate interval. The PASM suspension functions correctly, and is a very nice addition to the Carrera. The front shocks, mounts, control arms, and swaybar end links were recently replaced. The brakes are strong, with plenty of pad thickness and rotor run-out remaining; the front brakes will be due in the medium-term future. We ensure it passes emissions and pay for it in the State of Colorado.
