2019 Volkswagen Golf R (MK7) Manual, DCC, Navigation exterior photo

In 1976, Volkswagen shoehorned an up-rated engine into its economic and practical Golf, and the hot-hatch was born. The resulting Golf GTI (Grand Tourer Injection) sacrificed none of the regular Golf’s practicality, while adding a significant performance improvement in an “everyday” package. Other manufacturers followed in the same footsteps, but the iconic Volkswagen GTI was always the best hot-hatch—until 2003 when Volkswagen outdid itself once again. The newly developed Volkswagen “R” sub-brand released the Mk4 Golf R32, adding more power and all-wheel drive, making the Golf R32 the range-topping hot-hatch. Over the following generations Volkswagen continued to up the ante, changing the name to the Golf R when the 3.2-liter VR6 was dispatched for the more powerful and more fuel efficient 2.0T. The Mk7 Golf R is the best of the best, with 288 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, adaptive suspension dampeners (DCC), and an advanced Haldex 4MOTION all-wheel drive system that can split power 50% front to rear. The Golf R’s fit and finish are at the top of its class, with a level of refinement more at home in a luxury German sports sedan than a hot hatch.

Summary

 exterior photo

This 2019 Golf R is an exceptional example with only 28,800 miles on the clock. Finished in Indium Gray Metallic over black leather it is optioned in the perfect specification for an enthusiast: slick top and manual transmission, but with navigation and the more advanced DCC (Dynamic Chassis Control) active suspension. It was optioned with the gloss black Pretoria wheels, while other stock kit includes adaptive headlights, ambient interior lighting, and the 6.5-inch infotainment touch screen. The only modifications are EMD lowering springs and a muffler delete. The Carfax is clean and reports it as a one owner personal vehicle. It reports frequent and regular servicing and oil changes, with the most recent maintenance being 1,000 miles ago with the oil being changed and the front brake rotors and pads being replaced. Its overall condition is excellent, with any imperfections being very minor. The wheels have no bends and no curb rash; they are wrapped in Continental ContiSportContact+ tires with 2019 dates and 60% tread. Two key FOBs and all owner’s manuals are included with sale. As it sits, this is an excellent example of a Mk7 Golf R, one of the best solutions to the single-car mission ever made. We want a premium for it, but it with the manual gearbox and the rest of the option list, it still represents a great value in the current market.
