2007 Honda S2000 (AP2) exterior photo

The Honda S2000 was the 1990’s iteration of the iconic S roadsters, some of Honda’s first cars. The 1990s was an era when Honda set the standard of quality, efficiency, and a proper sporting experience—a period when Honda engineers were fanatical and focused. The S2000 was built with this fanaticism at the exclusive Takanezawa facility, alongside the NSX and first-generation Honda Insight (the most fanatical Honda of all). At the heart of the AP2 (post-facelift), S2000 was the front mid-mounted 2.2-liter F22C1 engine. Thanks to a healthy dose of Honda racing technology, the lightweight aluminum F22C1 spins freely to a screaming 8000-RPM redline, while offering a more tractable torque curve than the even higher-revving pre-facelift motor. Power was routed through a 6-speed transmission (with even shorter ratios in the first five gears for the AP2) and one of the best shifters in any car ever produced, along with a limited-slip differential. A rigid chassis, advanced suspension, weight-conscious approach, and driver-focused interior round out the sports car package. As Honda and the world have marched ever forward in the technological automobile arc, the uncompromising focus of the S2000 made it one of the most desirable sports cars of the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Summary

 exterior photo

This Rio Yellow over Black leather 2007 Honda S2000 is an exceptional example, with only 15,100 miles! Rio Yellow is a quintessential S2000 color and looks fantastic in all lighting conditions. Factory standard kit and options include the 3-spoke sport steering wheel, power windows and door locks, power convertible top, push-button start, glass rear wind deflector, and the limited-slip differential. Modifications include an Ingalls engine torque brace, NRG short shifter (original shifter included), Infinity Mugen headers and a Magnaflow high-flow catalytic convertor, a rear adjustable sway bar with polyurethane bushings, Mugen strut braces (uninstalled), and SSR Type C RS wheels wearing Continental ExtremeContact Sport+ tires. The original S2000 wheels have Continental ExtremeContact DWS all-season tires mounted. Inside, the factory stereo (included) has been replaced with a Bluetooth Kenwood stereo, Alpine amp, and Kicker subwoofer. The exterior has a paint-matched front spoiler (not installed), along with rear side skirts and a rear spoiler. Larry Miller Honda of Hillsboro, Oregon originally delivered it. It remained and was serviced there until it was sold in 2009 at 8,900 miles to the second owner in Wenatchee, Washington, where Apple Valley Honda serviced it. In 2014, it came to Colorado with 11,660 miles and remained with that owner until a Glen Shelly regular bought it in 2017 with 14,779 miles. He kept it as the flagship of his collection, which consisted of Hondas and air-cooled Porsche 911s. He added most of the modifications in 2018 and then succumbed to health issues, leaving the S2000 sitting quietly on a battery tender in his climate-controlled garage for the next five years. Financial needs forced the need to sell, so he had us get it and get it running. We trailered it to the hangar, drained the gas and oil, flushed the brake fluid, gearbox, and differential fluid, replaced the battery, and got it safely running. He had only driven it 229 miles. All paint is original except for the hood and left front fender and slight damage to the left front rear fender. The paintwork is exceptional; it is likely that this occurred due to road debris or lift damage. As it sits, this is an exceptional S2000 in one of the best colors, with some fantastic options (that could easily be put back into stock), with extremely low mileage.

The Rio Yellow paint is an iconic color for the S2000 and offers a great contrast with the black interior. The overall condition is exceptional and indicative of its low mileage. The paint is original, measuring in the 3-4 mil range on every panel, except for the hood and driver’s fender, which gauges at 6-7 mils. The windshield glass is excellent, except for very slight pitting, while the rear window and glass windscreen are clear and crack-free. The headlight lenses are clear and only slightly opaque. All indicator lenses and taillight housings are crystal clear and crack-free. The body is in excellent condition, with one thumbnail-sized paint abnormality near the driver’s side windshield cowl. The convertible top is in excellent condition. The SSR Type C RS wheels are perfect. The original wheels have light to moderate curb rash but are presentable. Both sets of tires have virtually no miles on them, but were mounted in 2018 with older date codes. They have been stored in a climate-controlled environment since.

Interior

Overall the interior is consistently in exceptional shape. The carpets are in excellent condition and have been protected by factory floor mats. The seat leather is nearly perfect, with no tears. The 3-spoke steering wheel is in great shape. The instrument cluster is fully functional and all gauges work correctly. The Kenwood stereo sounds great, especially with the subwoofer. The original Honda CD player is also included. The center console shifter surround is slightly worn; the OEM shift knob is excellent. All interior functions work correctly; the power windows, power top, cruise control, and power mirrors. The factory keyless entry functions correctly. The heat blows warm and the air conditioning blows cold. The optional glass wind deflector is present and in great shape. The trunk carpet is clean, and the tool kit and spare tire are present. Two keys and the owners’ manual are included.

Mechanical

The brilliant thing about the S2000 is Honda’s renowned quality and reliability combined with an exceptional sports car platform. We did the work outlined in the summary paragraph to resurrect it back into service safely. The F22C1 engine fires on command, idles smoothly, and pulls strongly to its stratospheric 8200 RPM redline! The VTEC functions correctly and engages with a kick in the pants at 6000 RPM. It does not leak or spot. The NRG shifter is crisp and tight and improves one of the best shifters in any car ever! The transmission does not grind or make any unhealthy noises. The clutch is equally intuitive, and take-up is firm. There is no driveline or wheel bearing noise or vibrations. The suspension is firm, yet compliant, and the AP2 cars received updates to make them handle a bit more predictably than the bump-steer/oversteer habits of the early AP1 cars. The tires have less than 100 miles on them. We pay for and ensure it passes emissions in the State of Colorado.
