The 997.2 Porsche 911 is one of the best 911s—ever! Viewed from the lens of the present, the 997 strikes the sweet spot of size, weight, power, and old-school Porsche goodness. By the 997, Porsche had redeemed itself from the transgressions of the 996 (we love 996s at Glen Shelly), but had not model-crept the 911 into the realm of the GT car that followed with the 991. Released for the 2009 model year, the 997.2’s direct-fuel-injected engine suffered none of the bore scoring or IMS issues of the 997.1. And thanks to a global economic crash, 997.2 production numbers were remarkably lower than 997.1s. The 7-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) dual-clutch automated manual transmission premiered with the 997.2, the first gearbox worthy of replacing the 6-speed manual. The 997.2 Carrera 4S (C4S) received the 3.8-liter DFI engine, which was good for four seconds flat to sixty miles per hour. It also got Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) as standard, 13-inch brakes, and Turbo wheels. As far as a sports car that is a jack of all trades, the Carrera 4S is the sweet spot in the sweet spot of the 997.2.
This 997.2 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S, finished in Black over Sand Beige Full Leather, is an exceptional example of a 997.2. With only 48,200 miles, it is in excellent condition, but can still be enjoyed without the guilt of an extremely low mileage car. In addition to the standard Carrera 4S kit, the options list includes the 7-speed PDK gearbox, Sport Chrono Plus package, Bose High-End sound, heated and ventilated seats, and the Sport exhaust. The latter has been replaced by a Tubi exhaust, “the only loud exhaust that receives praise from your neighbors.” The only other upgrade from stock is an Alcantara Sport Design steering, an Alcantara shift knob, and an Alcantara emergency brake handle. The Sport Design steering wheel is a notable (and expensive) upgrade addressing the only real nitpick of Porsche’s PDK system: having an up-and-down function on each steering wheel paddle. The Sport Design steering wheel simplifies things with a dedicated up and dedicated down paddle, the way every PDK 911 should have been delivered.
This 911 C4S was originally delivered in December of 2009 by Joseph Northland Porsche in Cincinnati, Ohio, and remained there under three owners. The third owner, a good friend and Glen Shelly regular, brought it to California in 2018, where it remained until we first purchased it in 2021 and brought it to Colorado. After that, it sold immediately to another good friend and Glen Shelly regular. We just got it back on trade and are proud to offer it for sale. The Carfax is clean and details regular dealer services throughout its life. The maintenance records date back early in its life, documenting those services. In preparation for sale, we completed a basic round of maintenance, including a PDK service. As it sits, it is an exceptional example of a 997.2 911 Carrera 4S with a few very tasteful upgrades. We would like to find the next owner who will write the next chapter of its story.
The black paint is in exceptional condition and highlights the fluid lines of the 997. Flaws consist of several small chips on the front trunk lid and a smaller chip on the passenger side quarter panel. There is a larger spider crack on the upper right portion of the front bumper cover, but it takes some searching to notice. The paint is original from the A-pillars back, our friend, the third owner, had the front fenders, hood, and bumper cover painted to address rock chips. The paint measures between 3 and 5 mils except for the fenders and front trunk lid, which have been repainted and measure in the low double digits. Protective film covers the front of each fender, the front of the rear wheel wells, and the front bumper. All trim is in good shape, except for a crack in the black plastic insert inside the front bumper. There is no rust, and all VIN/warning stickers are present and legible. There are no panel gap inconsistencies, and all trim is accounted for and undamaged. The windshield light has pitting; the rest of the glass is pristine. The headlights, taillights, and indicators all function as they should and are also in pristine condition. The Turbo wheels are all in excellent condition. The wheels are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires that measure 9/32 up front and 7/32 in the rear; all four have 2017 DOT dates.
The Sand Beige Full leather interior is pristine. There are no stains, or foul odors, and it has never been smoked in. The headliner and door cards are pristine; typical 997 wear areas like the door trim and center console are excellent. The Sport Design steering wheel is the centerpiece of the interior, with the Alcantara adding a perfect contrast to the Sand Beige. The Alcantara is in excellent shape, with no notable wear. The dashboard is crack-free, the instrument cluster is fully functional, and so are the pop-out cup holders. All interior lighting, lock switches, and other power switches work correctly. Climate control blows hot and cold when needed with no foul odors. There are no dead pixels or damage in any of the LCD screens. The Bose stereo system sounds fantastic, and the 997.2 PCM is a significant improvement over the 997.1. The center console is in great shape, as are the Alcantara PDK knob and e-brake handles. The heated and ventilated front seats work, with only light wear on the outer driver’s seat bolsters. The rear seats are in fantastic shape. The front trunk compartment is stain free, contains no foul odors, no damage, and every component of the trunk assembly is in place and undamaged. The owners’ manual, two keys, original window sticker, and records binder are included with the sale; as is the original steering wheel.
This 997.2 Carrera 4S has had excellent care and maintenance throughout its lifetime. Thorough maintenance records date to early in its lifetime, documenting a rigorous maintenance schedule. The 3.8-liter engine fires on command, idles smoothly, and does not smoke or leak. There is no excessive carbon buildup on the exhaust tips (which we never clean on any 911). The PDK transmission shifts correctly and was recently serviced by us in preparation for sale to due time interval. The Tubi exhaust sounds glorious, striking the perfect balance between civilized at lower RPMs and aggressiveness at high RPMs. It does not have flaps like the Sport Exhaust. The PASM suspension functions correctly, and is a very nice addition to the Carrera. It’s remarkable for its smoothness in non-sport compared to non-PASM 911s. The brakes are strong, with plenty of pad thickness and rotor run-out remaining. We ensure it passes emissions and pay for it in the State of Colorado.
