The E92 generation M3 (2008-2013 model years, the 2 designates a 2-door) marks the end of an era for the BMW M3. It was the last M3 that followed the high revving, high compression, naturally aspirated, individual throttle body recipe that started with the iconic E30 M3. If you are an M car fanatic of the old school, this is a big deal in the turbo-charged world of the present. The E92 M3 is the most highly evolved and potent example of that old-school recipe. Put another way; the E92 M3 is a fire-breathing monster that shrieks to a redline North of 8,000 rpm while inhaling through no less than eight snarling throttle bodies and wailing through an exhaust unimpeded by turbochargers. It is the M3 with the volume turned up to eleven. And, because it’s an M3, it still offers wonderful daily drivability, comfort, luxury, and practicality. Car and Driver, Motor Trend, and Edmunds called the E92 M3 the finest, single best, and most complete car on the market. Even the sanctimonious Jeremy Clarkson said it was the best car and there is no point in thinking otherwise.
This 2011.5 E92 M3 Competition Coupe with only 53,400 miles is an outstanding example! Finished in Melbourne Red over two-tone Fox Red and Black Novillo leather, it is a highly optioned M3 Competition Coupe. The formidable options list includes the Competition Package (ZCP), Convenience Package with Comfort Access, Premium Package 2, Carbon Fiber roof, M Dynamic Mode w/ M Drive, Adaptive xenon headlights, Lights Package, power-adjustable side bolsters, heated seats, fold-down rear seats, and auto-dimming rearview mirrors. Furthermore, because it is a 2011.5, it is the CIC-based iDrive with BMW HiFi, BMW Professional Navigation, BMW Online, and BMW Apps.
It was originally ordered to spec by a customer from Evans Motorsport/BMW of Dayton, Ohio. The original Build Your BMW order list is included with the original sale paperwork, as are pictures of it being imported on the ARC MV Liberty transport ship, along with the ship’s navigation log from Germany to the Port of Baltimore, Maryland. It remained under the first owner for the next six years and 29K miles, always being dealer serviced at BMW of Dayton. From there, it was acquired and sold by Enthusiast Auto Group, receiving a $4K service (including a healthy oil analysis) to the second owner in Marshfield, Massachusetts. Under their tenure, they only added 5K miles, and it was dealer serviced at South Shore BMW. The third owner brought it to Colorado in 2020 with 34K miles, where it was serviced by Winslow BMW in Colorado Springs. We purchased it from them and are proud to have it at the hangar. In preparation for sale, we couldn’t find much to gripe about. The Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires have only a few hundred miles on them. We completed an oil service (which showed a healthy oil analysis) and replaced the cabin and engine air filters. The Carfax is clean, it shows no evidence of being in any accidents, and all paint is original. The service records are thorough and complete, dating to the original delivery paperwork. The rod bearings are original, but the oil analysis is healthy. We can replace these for an additional cost, but we don’t put preventative replacement on the radar until after the 60K mile mark. This is a genuine enthusiast grade E92 M3 ZCP; we would like to find a new owner who will write the next chapter of its story.
The Melbourne Red paint is in excellent condition. All paint is original, gauging at between 3 and 4 mils (a paint gauge report is included in the records). Close inspection does reveal typical slight imperfections in the form of minor rock chips in the lower front bumper cover, the leading edge of the hood, and a few on the mirror cover. In addition, there are a few light scratches that could be made better with paint correction. The VIN sticker is in place, as are all warning stickers, and there is no rust (lift shots are available on our website if you are reading this elsewhere). All trim is present and in excellent condition. The front windshield rubber is slightly lifting at the corners, but is fully functional. The windshield is crack-free and has only minor pitting; the side and rear window glass are tinted and in great shape. The headlight lenses are clear and crack-free, with only light pitting; the side, marker, and taillights are also in excellent condition. The ZCP wheels are straight and true, with only minor imperfections and no notable curb rash. They are wearing Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires with nearly 100% tread remaining and 2022 DOT dates.
The interior of this M3 is as exceptional as the exterior, with two-tone Fox Red over Black leather being a defining element of the cockpit. There are no odors, and it has never been smoked in. The carpet is free of tears and stains and is protected by BMW floor mats and a rubber trunk mat. The headliner doesn’t sag, and the pillar trims are free of wrinkles. The door sill on the driver’s side has very light scuffing. The seats are in excellent condition, with only light bolster wear on the outer bolsters. The rear seats are immaculate and are the desirable fold-down type. The steering wheel, dashboard, instrument cluster, steering column switches, and center console buttons are in near-perfect condition. There are no failed pixels in the instrument cluster and no check lights, warning lights, or check control alerts. The BMW HiFi stereo sounds fantastic. The A/C blows cold and the heat blows warm. The seat belt extenders work correctly. The cup holders also work; we replaced the left one. Two key FOBs and the owners’ manual leather booklet are included.
All maintenance is up to date, and no common E9X/S65 issues are present—the service records date to the original delivery. The oil analysis is healthy, and preventative rod bearings don’t need to be considered until after the 60K mile mark (we just did a set of a 61K mile E90 M3 that showed no evidence of scoring). The throttle body actuators are functioning correctly; we put those on the radar around the 80K mile mark. The engine fires on command, idles smoothly, and pulls strongly to redline. It does not leak, drip, or spot. One of the power steering lines is slightly fuzzy, but it does not warrant replacement yet. The same is true for the valve cover gaskets. The VANOS units are quiet. The M-DCT transmission shifts correctly, and there are no codes. There is a DCT service included in the records. The suspension is firm and compliant, and the EDC functions correctly. The brakes have lots of pad life and rotor run-out remaining. There is no driveline or wheel bearing vibration or whine. We ensure it passes and pay for emissions in the State of Colorado. As it sits, this is a turn-key E92 M3 ready to be driven and enjoyed by its new owner.
