The E92 generation M3 (2008-2013 model years) marks the end of an era for the BMW M3. It was the last M3 that followed the high revving, high compression, naturally aspirated, individual throttle body recipe that started with the iconic E30 M3. If you are an M car fanatic of the old school, this is a big deal in the turbo-charged world of the present. The E92 M3 is the most highly evolved and potent example of that old-school recipe. Put another way, the E92 M3 is a fire breathing monster that shrieks to a redline north of 8,000 rpm while inhaling through no less than eight snarling throttle bodies and wailing through an exhaust unimpeded by turbochargers. It is the M3 with the volume turned up to eleven. And, because it’s an M3, it still offers wonderful daily drivability, comfort, luxury, and practicality. Car and Driver, Motor Trend, and Edmunds called the E92 M3 the finest, single best, and most complete car on the market. Even the sanctimonious Jeremy Clarkson said it was the best car and there is no point in thinking otherwise.
This 2012 Alpine White ZCP E92 M3 has been a part of the Glen Shelly family for nearly two years. It is a pinnacle example of a post-facelift E92 M3 with the Competition Package, six-speed manual, and iDrive delete rounding out the Holy Trinity of E9X M3 options. It was originally delivered in Quebec, Canada and remained there until coming to Texas under the second owner in 2016. Modern Canadian Market BMWs are North American cars with the Canadian Version option code 838, making them U.S. legal. When it came to the States, BMW of Houston serviced the car and coded the odometer and digital speedometer to miles. The analog speedo still reads in kilometers per hour, which gives it a Euro feel. We purchased it two years ago from a local firefighter to add to our private collection of white M cars. We’ve used it sparingly and have decided to sell to fund another car. Under our tenure, we’ve had the car paint corrected, ceramic coated and applied XPEL Ultimate Plus full hood protection earlier this year. Mechanically we’ve replaced the front brake pads, rotors, and rear brake pads and sensor, replaced diff bolts and exhaust clamps due to slight corrosion to ease in future services, replaced the cylinder-three ignition coil, passenger side fuel pump and sending unit, windshield, a headlight module, and lots of other small house keeping items. An oil sample from October 2020 at 46,300 miles shows healthy rod bearings with an aluminum average of 4 ppm. We also mounted Michelin Pilot Sport A/S3+ tires in September of 2020. As it sits, the M3 presents extremely well and is a turn-key example of one of the best E92 M3s you can get. We would like to find a home for it where it will be well cared for, appreciated and enjoyed as it has been.
The exterior of this M3 presents very well, with minimal evidence of wear commensurate with 40,000 respectful miles. There are slight rock chips in the front bumper and a couple of small chips present on the lower edge of the rear valence; the majority of the exterior is clear, clean, and shines with its recent detailing and ceramic coating. The car received a new windshield and factory windshield gasket last summer due to owner preference. The car has lived almost exclusively on a battery tender in a climate-controlled garage since joining the Glen Shelly family, and the condition of the car suggests it has lived a garage-kept, fair-weather driving existence its entire life. There is very minor pitting on the headlights, the taillights are brilliantly clear, and the exhaust pipes shine brightly. The ZCP wheels have minor curb marks on the front two wheels, the rears are flawless. The Michelin Pilot Sport A/S3+ (245/35r19 front, 265/35r19 rear) tires were installed in September 2020 and have fewer than one thousand miles on them.
The interior is in equally strong condition, with minor wear commensurate with a fair-weather driver’s car. There are no odors, tears, scuffs, or stains. The steering wheel leather and shift knob both show minor patina and the driver’s seat bolster and arm rest show light wear. The interior is just worn in enough to invite the next driver to use and maintain the car well. The carbon fiber pattern leather trim is perfect. The leather covered trim panels, leather shifter, e-brake handle and boot, as well as the leather seats are soft and supple with minor wear on the driver’s side and even less wear on the passenger side. The rear seats appear to have been used sparingly, if ever. The carpets are in very good condition. All interior functions work correctly; the power heated seats, windows, door locks, seat belt extenders, heat, air conditioning, comfort access, etc. There are no failed pixels in the cluster displays and the lack of iDrive is a huge bonus on a driver’s car like this E92 M3 ZCP. There are no check lights, warning lights, or check control alerts. The BMW Individual stereo sounds amazing. One key FOB is included, along with the owners’ manual leather booklet.
The maintenance history of this M3 is excellent. All maintenance has been complied with to the BMW factory intervals or better. Oil changes have been done every 5,000 miles or annually. The oil analysis shows the rod bearings being healthy, we recommend preventative replacement nearing the 60K mile mark. We performed the list of maintenance outlined in the summary paragraph within the last 2,000 miles. The S65 engine starts on command, idles smoothly, and pulls strongly to redline (once the oil is warmed up, of course). The transmission shifts smoothly and the clutch take-up is correct. There is no shifter lean, which isn’t common on E9X generation. The suspension is excellent, and the brakes have been recently replaced. We ensure it passes and pay for emissions in the State of Colorado. As it sits, it is a turn-key M3 ready to be enjoyed by its new owner.
