The legendary first-generation Acura NSX spanned two decades from conception to the end of production and there have been few cars like it before or since. The NSX was born of an age when Honda was fanatical about quality and precision. It was born of an age when Honda engines powered Formula 1 cars and its drivers won Formula 1 championships. An age when Honda enlisted F1 drivers to develop and fine tune its super car before the NSX’s release in 1990—most notably a certain Brazilian with the last name Senna. The end result, developed and assembled by a dedicated team in its own production facility, boasted technology never before seen in a street production car. All aluminum monocoque construction was incredibly rigid, yet lightweight. Extensive aluminum componentry reduced unsprung weight and resulted in as-near-as-makes-no-difference to an overall weight of 3,000 pounds. Forged pistons and titanium connecting rods allowed a redline well north of 8,000 RPM out of a 3.0-liter V6 engine good for 270 horsepower. The exterior and interior design were inspired by the F-16 “Viper” with a clear cockpit theme and excellent visibility (for a mid-engined super car). In 1997 power was increased twenty horsepower with a revised 3.2-liter engine and a better breathing exhaust. A close-ratio 6-speed transmission was also added. Then in 2002 the final changes were made with the flip-up headlights being replaced by fixed HID units, subtle body changes, and minor suspension and tire changes. 2003 model years got a larger 19mm rear sway bar. Special editions notwithstanding, these are the rarest NSXs, with only 838 produced from 2002 to 2005, and they command the highest premiums.

Summary

This Berlina Black over Camel Leather Acura NSX is 1 of only 4 examples produced in that color combination for the 2003 model year, 1 of 28 2002 post-facelift examples, and 1 of only 232 over the entire production run. Acura of Memphis, Tennessee originally delivered it in April of 2003 before it worked its way west though subsequent owners to Colorado with the present owner, who I am selling it on consignment for. The current owner is a car collector who found the NSX with the help of a local NSX guru; he is selling to fund a business venture. With only 29,700 miles on the odometer it is in impeccable condition, very much the same as it was when it left the showroom floor. Thorough descriptions of the exterior and interior are outlined below. Documentation from previous owners is thin, but it has clearly always had good stewardship. The current owner spared no expense under his stewardship. In preparation for sale it received a fresh oil change and a “perfect” pre-purchase inspection by NSX specialist Chris Wayland at Fisher Acura (formerly Flatirons Acura) in Boulder. Chris is one of the premier Acura NSX technicians in the country, having worked on the NSX since its inception. NSXs from around the country are routinely shipped to Chris for service before being shipped back to their owners. Chris knows this NSX inside and out, He remarked that it is one of the most pristine examples he had seen in years. Under the current ownership Chris performed the following: timing belt, cam plugs, VTEC O-rings and oil sender O-rings, coolant main hoses, engine cover struts, trunk struts, charging system, rebuilt the door speaker, and fresh Yokohama tires were mounted with a four-wheel alignment. As it sits, this an extremely rare and well-preserved investment grade NSX. We are proud to offer it for sale and would like to find a new owner who will continue its legacy for the next chapter of its life.

The Berlina Black Metallic paint is in excellent condition. The finish is glossy and brilliant, with only very minor imperfections. All paint appears to be original and all panel gaps are correct. There are no glaring dents or dings and no clear coat lifting. The front bumper cover does have minor pitting, and some slight scuffing on the lower lip due to the inherently low ride height, but neither is conspicuous from normal viewing angles. There is a very light 5-inch scuff on the rear bumper, but it is forgivable due to the exceptional condition of the rest of the car. All trim and the 2002 post-facelift black mesh are present and in excellent condition. The removable targa top has no “hangar rash” from storage. The headlight, indicator and taillight lenses are clear and crack free, although there is mild condensation in the center portion of the taillights (a common issue). The post-facelift alloy wheels are true and straight with zero curb rash. The Yokohama S Drive tires have less than 1000 miles on them and recent DOT dates.

Interior

Open the door and you are greeted with that lovely Acura leather smell; sit down and the F-16 theme prevails. There are no odors and it has never been smoked in. The carpet is free of stains thanks to replica black factory NSX-R floor mats (perfect matching camel floor mats are also included). The seat leather is soft and there is no significant wear on the bolsters; all power seat functions work correctly. The dashboard leather is perfect, and features the white stitching unique to 2002 post-facelift cars. The post-facelift aluminum trim is in excellent condition. The steering wheel and shifter leather are likewise fantastic. All instrument cluster gauges work correctly and there are no check engine or warning lights. The Acura / Bose stereo sounds great; the records show the driver’s door speaker being repaired and re-installed in the door panel by Fisher Acura. The power door locks, window switches and mirror switches work correctly. The heat blows warm and the air conditioning blows cold. The targa top storage covers are intact and the leather cover snap is present. The spare tire, tool kit, and owners’ manuals are present, along with three keys and two FOBs.

Mechanical

There are few driving experiences that can match a proper low-mileage NSX, and this example is no exception. The C32B engine fires up on command, idles smoothly, and pulls strongly to redline. The only modification on the car is a Comptech exhaust that sounds incredible, but is still quiet enough for regular driving. When parked, there are no oil leaks or drips, and the VTEC and oil sender O-rings have been recently replaced, along with the timing belt. The clutch has zero slip, the take-up is correct, and the shifter is crisp and precise. The driveline and wheel bearings are quiet and there are no vibrations. The suspension is firm, yet compliant; 2003 NSXs benefit from the wider track of the 2002 post-facelift and a larger rear sway bar. The brake pedal is firm, and the brakes have plenty of pad life and rotor run out remaining. At the end of May 2018, it received an oil change and a perfect inspection report from Fisher Acura. As it sits, this is a turn-key NSX ready to be enjoyed by its new owner. I wouldn’t hesitate to drive it across the country. We would like to find a buyer who will continue to care for it and appreciate it for years to come.
