The Ur (Ursprünglich: original) S4 and S6 were high-performance evolutions of the Audi 100 sedan. The S4 debuted in 1991 and was rebadged with minor cosmetic updates as the S6 in 1994. Both were powered by a turbocharged and intercooled 2.2-liter 20-valve inline 5-cylinder engine good for 227 horsepower and 258 foot-pounds of torque through Audi’s Quattro all-wheel drive. V8 models followed in some markets, but the “20 Valve” has become the motor of choice for the old-school Audi enthusiast, thanks to its smooth power delivery, robust durability and iconic 5-cylinder sound. Audi has always edged out BMW in the interior department and the Ur S6 was no exception. It set a new standard of sporting luxury with a perfectly sized 3-spoke sport steering wheel, silk Nappa Leather sport seats with front and rear heating and white-faced gauges with extended engine instruments over a well-appointed center control panel. Ur S4s and S6s in good condition have become extremely rare thanks most of them being thoroughly used and enjoyed—because they were that good!
This 1995 Audi Ur S6 has been very well cared for and owned by an aerospace engineer and Audi enthusiast for the last eighteen years! He purchased it from the original owner in 2001 with 69,000 miles on the odometer. It comes with every single service record and maintenance invoice since the original delivery on December 29, 1995. The first owner was a real estate agent based in Evergreen, Colorado who used the S6 to chauffeur her clients about. The addition to being an aerospace engineer and Audi enthusiast the second owner is also a BMW and Porsche club instructor who used it as his fair weather daily driver. He is obsessive and meticulous to a fault, having logged every single maintenance action in a notebook and cataloging all receipts in a three-ring binder. That stewardship is what makes this 189K-mile Ur S6 look and drive like an S6 with a fraction of the miles and makes it stand out against a population of Ur S6s that have long been beaten, abused, and retired. Recent maintenance includes: timing belt, tensioner, water pump, coolant flush, front and rear suspension bushings, heater core, blower fan, heater valve, and a rebuilt power steering system. The logbook and records show regular oil changes, and frequent routine and preventative maintenance prior to that. Many hard to source or no longer available parts, like power steering pump to brake accumulator high-pressure hose, were professionally rebuilt to keep things stock and factory correct. The suspension is upgraded with 1992 model year Ur S4 springs (the original springs are included), which were the same as the Euro springs, mated to Bilstein Sport shocks. 1992 Ur S4 Springs springs are approximately the same spring rate as the Eibach Pro-Kit, but are slightly taller. They are considered to be the most desirable spring package for this car, providing a sporty ride without being harsh, and maintaining sufficient ride height for those “Quattro” snow days. The S6 looks absolutely fantastic in Aluminum Silver over Silver Grey leather. The exterior is in excellent condition; the front bumper cover was repainted by SVE Autobody in 2015 and is protected with Clear Bra, along with the hood, fenders, and the mirrors. The interior is also in excellent condition, presenting like a much younger and lower mileage car. Every function works correctly, down to the Audi Cellular telephone—except for the lack of a usable network to make phone calls on. Extras include a set of winter tires and wheels, along with many original parts that can be used as cores. Two keys and all owners’ manuals are included with the sale along with the maintenance logbook and 3-ring binder of receipts.
The Aluminum Silver paint is in excellent condition and presents like a car that has always been properly stored and detailed. The finish is glossy and brilliant with no glaring defects; close inspection reveals a few very minor imperfections, but nothing close to what a car of this one’s age and mileage would normally have. Early in this S6’s history the original owner had some panels re-painted by Prestige Audi due to being caught in a sand storm. In 2010 the rear bumper was scuffed in the parking lot of Vitamin Cottage. It was reported to insurance and is on the Carfax, but the owner was able to polish it out. In 2015 the front bumper was caught on a curb and damaged, and was repaired and repainted by SVE Autobody. The front bumper cover, leading edge of the hood, front fender flares, and mirrors are a protected by clear bra. There is no rust; the body was galvanized from the factory. All trim is in place, but the lower door trim is peeling back slightly at the rear of the front doors. The no-longer-available front and rear S6 badges were replaced prior to being discontinued and have no faded colors (the originals are included in the sale). The windshield glass is crack-free with only minor pitting. The side and rear window glass is in excellent shape. The headlight lenses are crack-free, as are the fog lights, indicators, markers, and brake light lenses. The OZ Racing Superleggera wheels are in good shape, with very minor curb rash on two of them. The Hankook tires have 60% tread remaining.
The interior is likewise in excellent condition. There are no odors and it has never been smoked in. The carpet is free of stains and tears, and is protected by carpet floor mats that are lightly faded. The leather seats are in excellent shape; there is no significant wear on the seat bottoms or backrest bolsters. There is one small faded spot on the passenger seat bottom cushion. The power seat adjustments function as they should, as does the seat heating. The rear seat leather is also fantastic. The dashboard is crack-free. The wooden trim has no cracks, aside from two tiny cracks in the ashtray trim. The 3-Spoke steering wheel is also in excellent shape. The instrument cluster has no failed bulbs or blown out pixels and shows no warning lights. The onboard computer functions correctly and shows OK on the check panel. The original Audi Bose stereo sounds great and has no blown out pixels or back lighting. The HVAC control panel works as it should with no blown out pixels. The heat blows warm, the AC blows ice cold, and the blower motor is quiet. All switches, power windows, the sunroof, and door locks work correctly. The center armrest locks in all positions and has very good leather. The Audi cellular telephone powers up on command, but there is not longer a network that supports it. It is a fun novelty to confound millenials at the drive through! The factory trunk carpet has no discoloration and the spare tire is present. Two keys are included with the sale, along with all original owner’s manuals and the owner’s manual booklet.
This is a turn-key Ur S6 that needs nothing. I wouldn’t hesitate to drive it across the country or make it my daily driver. The list of recent maintenance is outlined in the summary paragraph.
The AAN fires on command, idles smoothly, and pulls strongly to redline. The timing belt was recently replaced. The coil packs have been replaced with Audi 2.0T coils and an 034 Motorsport Harness, but the original coil packs and harness are included in the sale (one of them is bad). The coil pack cover does not fit with the 2.0T coil packs, but it is also included in the sale. The underside is dry and it does not leak or spot. The shifter is crisp, and the gearbox shifts smoothly. There are no driveline or wheel bearing vibrations. The suspension is perfect with the ’92 Ur S4 springs and Bilstein sport shocks. The brakes are strong. The owner has the servotronic relay disconnected because he didn’t like its feel, but it could easily be plugged back in. The front and rear brake pads and rotors were all recently replaced and have plenty of life remaining (the front rotors had not yet been replaced in the photographs).
This Ur S6 is a time capsule. It is an outlier in a population of Ur S6s that have long been through daily abuse for 20+ years. It has been fanatically owned and it shows. We would like to find a new owner who will continue that lineage and enjoy it for years to come.
