The 993 chassis (1995 to 1998 911s in the US market) was the pinnacle of air-cooled Porsche evolution. The Porsche 911’s air-cooled rear-engine recipe was so good that it remained largely unchanged for its first twenty-five years. Then, in 1989 with the 964, the 911 underwent a revolutionary development that was massive by Porsche standards. Just as the dust had settled from the 964, the 993 made another earth-shattering leap forward with a yet-again completely revised engine, suspension, and a modernized appearance. Despite its technological advancements, the 993 did not forsake its iconic design, Porsche’s impeccable craftsmanship, or the 911’s air-cooled DNA—which could not be said of its successor, the 996. The 993 marked the greatest and final chapter of the air-cooled Porsche 911. When viewed through the lens of the present, it has only become more significant as the inevitable march of time and technology have proven how utterly excellent the 993 was.
This Black over Cashmere Beige 1997 Porsche 993 911 Carrera Cabriolet is a low-mileage time capsule of one of the best 911s ever built. The Black paint is immaculate, having a liquid effect that highlights the elegant and fluid lines of the 993. Inside, the Cashmere Beige is nearly perfect and creates a light and airy atmosphere. With only 26,400 miles, it is in exceptional condition, and all original. Factory options include the Cashmere Beige and Black partial leather, 8-way power driver’s seat, Becker Porsche Stereo system with CD changer, power convertible top, and 17-inch Cup wheels. Always a Colorado Car, it was originally delivered by Prestige Imports in July of 1997 and always dealer serviced there or Porsche of Littleton through subsequent owners. We are selling on consignment for the third owner, a fellow Porsche Club member. The Carfax documents thorough dealer maintenance since its original delivery date. In preparation for sale, it received a fresh oil change, and we replaced the drive belts, hood and decklid struts, the air filter, and mounted fresh Continental ExtremeContact Sport Plus tires. In June of 2019, the front bumper and hood were repainted and the windshield was replaced due to caked mud that fell off another vehicle. The work was completed by Prestige Imports and is documented in the records binder. In October of 2020 the owner had aftermarket exhaust tips replaced with OEM ones, and the rear bumper was also repainted at the same time. All remaining paint gauges as original (in-depth descriptions are below). As it sits, this is a fantastic collector-grade example of a 993 911 ready to be enjoyed by its new owner.
The Black paint on this 993 is in incredible condition. We purposely photographed it in direct sunlight to highlight its few flaws—a bold move for a black twenty-five-year-old car. Other than the hood and front and rear bumper covers, the paint gauges at 5 to 6 mils on every panel. Imperfections consist of typical age-related wear in the form of very light scratches and swirls, a few small rock chips in the lower front bumper cover, and small paint chip over the passenger side rear wheel. There is no rust. All VIN and warning stickers are present and legible. All panel gaps are consistent. All glass is clean and crystal clear, with only a single tiny pit in the passenger-side door glass. The headlights are pristine and functional. The taillights are in good condition and functional, with only the driver-side reverse light having a spider crack, but this does not hamper the light. The 17-inch Cup wheels are nearly perfect and wrapped in fresh Continental ExtremeContact Sport Plus tires that we mounted less than 100 miles ago.
The Beige Leather interior is of equal time capsule quality to the exterior. There are no stains or odors. The carpet is in excellent shape; the factory floor mats have slight discoloration. The soft top is in excellent condition, with no sags, rips, or stains, and works perfectly. The door cards are virtually devoid of wear. The steering wheel leather is wonderful, the most tactile element of the car; its soft leather highlights the overall pristineness of the car. The steering column stalks and switches are all in similar condition. The dashboard is immaculate and crack-free, and being a partial leather interior, will is more UV resistant than full leather interiors. All power functions, the windows, doors, convertible top, and seats are all unfaded and completely functional. Climate control blows hot and cold when desired. The original stereo sounds amazing, and the display is undamaged, with no dead pixels or other imperfections. The center console is in great shape, with the only exception being slight wear to the leather on the shifter. The full leather seats are in exceptional condition, with the only slight wear on the outer bolsters, the worst being on the driver’s side. The rear seats are pristine. The frunk compartment is in excellent condition; the carpet is stain-free, all fasteners are present, and there are no unpleasant odors. Underneath, the factory tool kit, spare tire, and jack are present. The hood sticker is also present. All owners’ manuals are included, as are two key FOBs.
There are few driving experiences that can match a pristine 993. The M64 engine fires on command, idles smoothly, and pulls strongly to redline. 1996 and later 993s featured the VarioRam, which improves low-end torque and throttle response, a wonderful addition to late-model 993s. When parked there are no oil seeps, drips, or notable leaks. The clutch take-up is correct and does not slip. The G50 6-speed gearbox shifts wonderfully smoothly. The driveline, transaxle, and wheel bearings are quiet with no vibrations. The suspension is firm, yet compliant. The brakes have plenty of life remaining and offer stout stopping power. As it sits, this is a turn-key 993 ready to be enjoyed by its new owner. We wouldn’t hesitate to drive it across the country. We would like to find a buyer who will continue to care for it and appreciate it for years to come.
