Summary

 exterior photo

This 1999 Isuzu Vehicross is an excellent example, finished in Astral silver over a black and red interior. With 118,000 miles, it has spent the majority of its life in California, except for a brief stint in Wisconsin. There is no rust. Modifications include a 3-inch ARB Old Man Emu lift over Method racing wheels wearing 33-inch BF Goodrich KO2 tires (the original wheels are included). Inside, it features a Sony touchscreen stereo with Apple CarPlay and a Kicker subwoofer. Outside, it has a Yakama roof rack on the factory crossbars, KC Lites driving lights with removable amber covers, and a receiver hitch step. It is pre-wired and switched for a light bar or rack-mounted roof lights. We purchased it in October of 2024 to feature it in an episode of Life’s Too Short for Boring Cars, driving it roughly 3,000 miles under our tenure. During that time, we disabled the torque-on-demand system due to intermittent operation, making it a switched two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive system, similar to a traditional four-wheel drive. The four-wheel high works through a guarded switch in the console, and the low works through the shift lever. We also replaced the alternator, cleaned and re-greased the left window regulator, replaced the left front axle, and installed the fog lights. Previous maintenance includes front and rear brake pads and rotors, painted brake calipers, water pump, PCV valve, transmission pan, and cooling lines, and a timing belt service. The records for these and other work date to 2021. The Carfax is clean and documents earlier work done by the previous owners.

Flaws include typical oil consumption during freeway driving, which is improved by using a 15W-40 weight Shell Rotella oil. The stiff rear springs tend to thud over large bumps, but this goes away when there is weight over the rear axle. The exterior has light clear coat and UV fading on the painted surfaces, and some paint peeling on the plastic surfaces. The latter has been repainted at some point, and aggressive high-pressure washing will remove some of this finish. It could be redone with proper prep and SEM trim paint. Elsewhere, there are minor scratches and chips from off-road use. Inside, the red steering wheel and armrest have been re-dyed black; although it is presentable, the change is noticeable. The factory carpets have some discoloration, and there is typical wear on the front seats. As it sits, this is a great example of an Isuzu Vehicross, with upgrades that take the already capable platform to the next level when going off-road. We want to find a new owner who will appreciate, maintain, and enjoy it for the next chapter of its story.
