Clean Carfax, No Accidents
At Glen Shelly Auto Brokers we are Toyota Tacoma fanatics. I had over 260,000 hard miles on my first generation Tacoma when I sold it and it was barely broken in. When I saw this truck I had to have it as exceptionally clean, low mileage first generation Tacos are super rare. This one has been in California since 2007 and 20,000 miles, living in sunny San Diego. Before that it was in Maine, but has had the factory under body treatment and is corrosion-free as a result. It was also inspected by the Toyota recall. When we got it, we brought all maintenance items up to date with a timing belt service, valve cover gaskets, intake plenum gaskets, spark plugs, spark plug gaskets, and a fresh oil change. Prior to this, the Carfax shows it has always been properly serviced with regular maintenance and oil changes. Post 2001 model years are arguably the best years of the first-gen Tacoma. This example is unmolested, completely stock and equipped with as every Taco should be with the crew cab, 3.4-liter V6, and the SR5 and tow packages. It doesn’t have the TRD package, but one advantage of that is it rides a lot smoother for the majority of the time it is on pavement. It certainly isn’t cheap either, but I paid a lot to get it and more to make it right. If you factor in the new timing belt and valve cover gaskets (that every Tacoma needs at this mileage) it is just an investment in future maintenance that you don’t have to do yourself.
Lunar Mist Silver (a euphemism for metallic silver) looks fantastic. Silver is one of the best Tacoma colors. The clear coat failure is not as common on Toyota silver paint, like it does on black, green, and red—and this example has no failed clear coat. The paint is in excellent condition, having none of the rock chips on the leading edges that Colorado Tacomas get. The tailgate has been repainted at some point, but it matches perfectly. All VIN tags are in place and the Carfax is clean. A factory undercoating has protected the underbody components, which other than normal superficial corrosion on the fastener heads, is completely rust-free. All trim work is in place and not UV faded. The chrome work is brilliant and free of pitting. The headlight and indicator lenses are not cloudy and are free of cracks. The windshield is also crack-free and has no excessive pitting. The sixteen-inch wheels are true and straight, with excellent finish. All center caps are present. The Michelin TX M/S 2 tires are worn evenly with over 75% tread remaining. The only exterior imperfections I can find are a few small dings commiserate with the low mileage, a minor impression in the rear bumper (pictured on our website), and the tailgate portion of the bed liner was removed. The rear badges were also removed, but could be replaced inexpensively if desired.
The tan cloth interior is also in exceptional shape. There are no odors and it has never been smoked in. The carpets are clean with no rips or stains. The seats are also free of rips, stains, or tears. There is a small superficial scratch on the glove box, but it isn’t glaring. All buttons and switches work correctly. The factory stereo sounds great, the clock has no failed pixels, and heat blows warm and the air condition blows cold. The power window regulators are quiet and the central locking works. The clutch pedal doesn’t squeak (a common issue) because there is no clutch pedal! The factory owners manual is present.
It’s clear with a short drive that this Tacoma has received excellent care from its previous owners. In preparation for sale we updated all routine and preventative maintenance by doing the timing belt service, valve cover gaskets, intake plenum gaskets, spark plugs, spark plug gaskets, and a fresh oil change. The 5VZ-FE V6 engine pulls amazingly strong, much stronger than my higher mileage Tacoma did. The gearbox shifts smoothly and driveline is quiet and vibration free. All mechanical functions work correctly, the 4-wheel drive engages smoothly in all ranges. The shocks are firm yet compliant, the suspension bushings are solid, and the rear leaf springs show no signs of cracking (a common issue). There are no fluid leaks, especially from the valve cover gaskets (since we just replaced them) or the rear differential (another common spot).
