This 2003 Titanium Silver over Black leather 330i-swapped 325iT Sport Wagon is an excellent example of a wagon that BMW should have offered from the factory. It began life as an exceptionally nice (despite wearing 218K miles on the chassis) 325iT Sport Wagon that reportedly had an E46 330i ZHP drivetrain swapped into it. The work was done by a BMW tech in Spokane, Washington, and the donor car was a 330i ZHP automatic that had been rear-ended. It came to us in its present form from a Glen Shelly regular in partial trade for a Porsche. Highlights of the specs outlined above are an M54B30 engine and 5-speed Steptronic automatic transmission, Sport steering wheel and recovered Sport seats, ZHP front bumper cover and foglights, ZHP instrument cluster rings, Bilstein B14 PSS coilover suspension, Euro blind spot mirrors, clear markers and taillights, and a modern Kenwood double-din stereo system with Apple CarPlay.
The wagon was originally delivered in Mountain View, California, in October of 2002. It remained in Northern California for the next eleven years and 140K miles under two owners, being serviced regularly by Mountain View BMW. It found its way to Washington, Oregon, and Northern Idaho under subsequent owners. The swap was reportedly done in 2020 near the 200K mile mark. The donor car reportedly had 150K miles on it at the time. During the swap, the following was reportedly done: VANOS rebuilt, DISA valve, intake boots, spark plugs and coil packs, cooling system components, electric cooling fan installed, accessory belts, fuel pump and filter, injectors cleaned, air and engine filters, Kassel tune added, oxygen sensors, transmission and differential services, front and rear lower control arms, wheel bearings, Bilstein B14 PSS coilovers installed, four-wheel alignment, front and rear brake lines, pads, and rotors, final stage resistor, window regulators, battery, and the windshield, cowling and gasket. The ZHP front bumper cover and fog lights were added, the Euro clear markers and taillights, M3 Contour wheels, Kenwood stereo, and ZHP 330i instrument rings.
The previous owner had the cooling system completely overhauled, power steering lines replaced, oil stand gasket, and another round of small odds and ends addressed. He also had the front seats recovered and did an extensive round of paintless dent repair and paint correction. The end result is a wagon that looks utterly fantastic—astonishingly so for its miles. You will brag about them at the fuel pump to whoever will listen! In our short time with it, it has become a Glen Shelly favorite, one that we argue over who will take for part-run duty. It is the perfect candidate for a 6-speed swap, or keep it as an automatic for commuter duty. We are reluctant to give it up, but look forward to finding its next owner.
The Titanium Silver Metallic paint is in exceptional condition, considering its age and mileage—a testament to being a California/Pacific Northwest car. Furthermore, except for the ZHP front bumper cover, it is all original, gauging at 3 to 4 mils. Imperfections consist of light rock chipping on the leading edges, several minor nicks, and scratches, but nothing glaring. All trim is present and accounted for, and the windshield cowling and trim were recently replaced, showing no typical UV fade. There is no rust, and the VIN tag is in place. The windshield glass is perfect, and the side and rear windows are tinted. The headlight lenses have slight cloudiness that could be corrected; the fog light lenses are clear and crack-free. The Euro markers and taillights are a fantastic addition. The Contour Wheels have no notable imperfections and are wearing Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires with plenty of tread remaining.
The interior is in very good shape. There are no smells, odors, or E46 “crayon” smell. The carpet is protected by BMW all-weather floor mats and a rear trunk mat. The headliner is in good shape; the sunroof shade is on the tracks, but the sunroof does not function, and the switch is disconnected. The dashboard is crack-free and in good condition. The fine wood trim is in fair shape, with cloudy clearcoat and multiple hairline cracks. It could be replaced with aluminum (I may have a set), ZHP carbon trim, or wrapped. The sport steering wheel leather shows wear, but is presentable. The steering wheel plastic trim has white plastic showing. There are no failed pixels in the instrument cluster or HVAC panel, and there are no warning or check engine lights. The Kenwood stereo is a nice modern upgrade and sounds great through the Harmon Kardon sound system. It features Apple CarPlay, and has USB plugs below the HVAC (which was relocated to fit the double din). The heat blows warm and the air conditioning blows cold. The final stage resistor functions correctly, and blower motor is quiet. The center console leather is in good shape, as is the armrest. The cup holders have typical E46 finish peeling, but could be replaced if desired. The power windows and door locks operate correctly. The door cards are tight, and the window regulators are quiet. The seats are in perfect shape, having been recently recovered. The rear seats show consistent wear for their age, but are presentable. The rear hatch area carpet is in good condition, and the cargo cover is present. Two keys and the valet key.
This is a completed and dialed 330i ZHP-swapped E46 wagon; it has no unresolved items that are common in so many swaps. No common E46 M54 items are present; the VANOS is quiet, the cooling system has been refreshed, there are no notable oil leaks, and the subframe shows no signs of cracking. The engine fires on command, idles smoothly, and pulls strongly to redline. The transmission shifts smoothly and does not slip. The suspension is aligned and wonderfully balanced. The ride is perfectly compliant for daily driving, but with very little body roll during cornering. The brakes are strong, having been recently replaced. Like any swapped vehicle, it will require patience to own at times, but it is one of the nicest examples we have seen.
