The third-generation Mercedes E-Class, the W211, was released for the 2003 model year. The W211 offered significant refinement and technological advancement over its predecessor. The E500 featured a 302-horsepower 5.0-liter V8, that offered 339 pound-feet of torque, a 5-speed shiftable automatic transmission, and adjustable Dual Control Airmatic suspension. The underlying theme of the E500 is uncompromised luxury, which can be found in every element of the car. Options such as heated, ventilated, active (massaging), and dynamic seats make no mistake of this; the latter adjusting the side bolsters for cornering forces. In the current market, the W211 offers one of the best values for performance and luxury that can be found in the German market.
This 2004 Mercedes-Benz E500 4Matic, finished in Black over Ash leather, with only 46,600 miles, is an outstanding low-mileage example of a W211. In addition to the standard E500 kit, it was originally optioned with Premium Package, including active (massaging) heated/ventilated and dynamic seats, Command System with navigation and Harmon Kardon premium sound, the glass sunroof, and rear window blinds. It also has the Lighting Package, which includes bi-xenon headlights and headlight washers. Other notable factory options are self-dimming rearview mirrors, keyless entry, and Airmatic adjustable air suspension. It was originally delivered by Autobahn Motor Cars Mercedes-Benz of Devon, Pennsylvania, to an owner just across the border in Delaware. It remained in that area, always being dealer serviced until 2019, and 36,000 miles. The Carfax shows regular and frequent dealer services. From there, it moved through several owners, with a stint in Arizona, before coming to Colorado. It came to us from a Glen Shelly regular. When we got it, we did an extensive round of maintenance, including re-booting the front CV axles, and replacing the rear air suspension valves and shocks, the rear brake pads and rotors, and the front brake lines. Lastly, we replaced both batteries. As it sits, it is a fantastic example of a W211 E500 and is ready to be enjoyed by its new owner.
The Black paint is in excellent condition and original, measuring between 2-6 mils throughout. It presents very well, but close scrutiny does reveal typical age-related flaws in the form of several small dents and moderate swirling. The front bumper has light pitting, as well as scuffing on the very bottom. There is no rust. All VIN and factory stickers are present and legible. There are no panel gap inconsistencies. All glass is clean and clear. The trim is undamaged and in great condition. The headlights are fully functional but do have some light scratching in the lenses. The taillights and indicators are fully functional and in great condition. The seventeen-inch alloy wheels are in good shape but do have light curb rash in spots. They are wrapped in Road Hugger GT Ultra tires with plenty of tread remaining.
The interior is consistent with the exterior. There are no foul odors, and it has never been smoked in. The headliner has a small stain, and the passenger sun visor mirror cover is broken, but the rest of the headliner is in great shape, with no sags or tears. The steering wheel is in great shape with only minor wear to the leather. The rest of the steering column is also fully functional and in fantastic condition. The dashboard is crack-free, and the instrument cluster is fully functional. All interior lights and switches are functional and undamaged. All power windows/locks function normally, and all switches are unfaded. Climate control blows hot or cold when required. The stereo system sounds amazing! The center console is in good shape, with only some marks and wear to the leather on the shifter. The seats are in great shape, with typical creasing on the outer seat bolsters. The driver’s seat is the worst. The heated and ventilated seats work, but the massage function of the front seats does not work. The trunk is unstained, has no odors, and the tool kit is present.
This W211 E500 is in excellent mechanical condition. In preparation for sale, we re-booted the front CV axles, overhauled the rear air suspension, replaced the rear brake pads and rotors and front brake lines, and both batteries. Going further back in time, the Carfax documents lots of maintenance early in its life. The V8 engine starts on command, idles smoothly, and pulls strongly to redline. The transmission shifts smoothly and does not slip. The suspension is compliant and wonderfully compliant, while still having exceptional handling prowess. There are no clunks, rattles, or other abnormal drivetrain noises. The brakes are firm, and it passes emissions with no problems, which we pay for. Like any Mercedes, it will certainly need continued care and maintenance, but thanks to its relatively low yet consistent use, it is in exceptional operating condition.
