The Nissan Frontier was the first major evolution of the iconic Nissan Hard Body Pickup trucks. The D22 was released in 1998 as single and king cab bodies; a four-door crew cab version followed for the 2000 model year. A face-lift also followed for the 2000 model year, with significant bodywork revisions that mirrored the aggressive look of the Xterra. The Frontier offered significantly more truck in the light truck market than its Ford Ranger and Toyota Tacoma competitors. With a 170-horsepower V6 engine, upped to 180-horsepower for the 2003-2004 model years, well-optioned true dual-cab body, and a robust four-wheel drive system. The Crew Cab Frontier was also the true dual-cab light truck with a six-foot bed. With the Nissan Frontier you get Japanese reliability without paying the premiums that Toyota Tacoma’s command.
This 2004 Nissan Frontier 4x4 Long Bed Crew Cab XE-V6 is the best of the D22 generation Frontiers. Upgrades include a Westin bull bar with PIAA fog lights, factory running boards and roof bars, a fiberglass Ranch topper shell, U-Haul receiver tow hitch, a JVC stereo with Aux and USB in, rearview mirror with back-up camera, and BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 tires. Factory options include front bucket seats, center console, cruise control, cargo bed light, keyless entry, and power door locks, mirrors, and windows. It’s a Florida, Oregon, and Colorado truck that come to us from the third owner, who had owned it since 2011 (he paid it off in 2013 which reported to the Carfax as a 4th owner, but his ownership is substantiated by the records). Under his tenure it was always dealer serviced at Empire or Boulder Nissan. The Carfax is clean, all VIN tags are in place, and it has never been in an accident. It’s a turn-key Frontier, ready to be enjoyed on Colorado adventures by its new owner. It’s the last year of the D22 generation, in a Crew Cab with a long bed and many desirable upgrades. It represents a tremendous value compared to other options on the market.
The exterior is in great condition, especially for a 16-year-old truck! The Radiant Silver Metallic paint shines brightly and is quite straight, with minimal door dings. There is no rust; only minor surface browning that is typical of the undercarriage and some paint chips on the rear bumper. The headlights are clear. The trim is in good condition, but has some UV fade from Colorado’s sunshine. The windshield glass is clear and crack-free, with only minor pitting. The topper is a fantastic addition if you wanted to build out the bed for traveling; otherwise it is ready to be put to work with the Nissan bed liner. The wheels are in good shape, the center caps are present, and the BF Goodrich T/A KO2’s are worn evenly with over 60% tread remaining.
The interior is very clean, especially for a truck. The seats are clean and have no tears or significant bolster wear. Fitted Frontier seat covers have protected them that are also included in the sale. There are no odors and it has never been smoked in. All buttons and switches work as they are supposed to, including the fog light and rearview mirror back-up camera switches. The JVC stereo sounds great through all off the speakers. The heat blows warm and the air-conditioning blows cold. There are two key sets, and all owner’s manuals and records from the previous owner (organized in a 3-ring binder) are included in the sale.
This has been a well-maintained truck over the course of its life, and it shows. We have extensive records from the previous owner dating back to 2011 and 85,000 miles. The records demonstrate oil changes every 5,000 miles, and recent work in the last couple of years includes: air filter replacement, differential and transmission fluid, plug wires, and a passenger side valve cover gasket. The records show frequent and consistent services including the timing belt at 98,772 miles, along with spark plugs, EGT system, and fuel system. In preparation for sale we replaced some weeping power steering hoses, the upper radiator hose, and the lower front tie rod ends. It starts up every time, idles smoothly, and pulls strongly to redline. The transmission shifts smoothly, and the transfer case changes in and out of four-wheel-drive with ease. The brakes are strong and there are no driveline vibrations. It passes emissions in Colorado, which we pay for.
