The Acura RSX was really the fourth generation Acura Integra (or Honda, elsewhere in the world), when Acura adopted its three-letter luxury car naming convention in the early 2000s. In hindsight, that was an unfortunate shift, as the RSX was every bit as deserving of the legendary Integra nameplate as those that came before it. The best RSX was the post-facelift (2005 and 2006 model years) RSX Type S. These featured the updated 210-horsepower 2.0-liter K20Z1 engine, which revved to a staggering Honda S2000-like 8,000 RPM. To help put that power to pavement the Type S also featured a tight ratio 6-speed manual transmission, sport tuned suspension, larger brakes, larger sway bars, a rear hatch spoiler, and 17-inch alloy wheels. Inside, highly bolstered sport seats and the Bose 7-speaker sound system were standard Type S kit. As the modern cars have become cookie-cutter infotainment-centric appliances, the RSX’s old school roots have only become more desirable. Like the Integra’s that came before it, the RSX is at the bottom of the depreciation curve, where clean, well-maintained surviving examples are getting due recognition for how simply excellent they are.
This 2006 Vivid Blue Pearl over Black leather DC5 RSX Type-S came to us on trade from the fourth owner, a retiree who had it for seven years and 25,000 miles. In that tenure it was very well maintained and cared for making it an outlier in a market filled high-mileage, abused entry-level examples. It has been lightly modified with lower springs, camber adjustment for the front and rear, and an aftermarket intake. This made the stance more aggressive, without making the ride quality too harsh, while the camber adjustment allows for the alignment to be corrected, even when lowered. The Carfax is clean and shows regular services at Flatirons Acura and Fine Tuned Auto once it landed in Colorado. There is also a thorough records binder filled with receipts and invoices. In 2016 at 89,000 miles, the original motor developed crank walk from an unresolved clutch-related issue; it was replaced with a good used unit from another RSX Type-S of the same year with a few thousand less miles. Fine Tuned Auto performed the install, also replacing the clutch, valve cover gasket, thermostat, and exhaust gaskets with a fresh oil change; this is also detailed in the records binder. It has run flawlessly since, as Honda engines are known to do. Other recent maintenance includes front brake rotors and calipers, as well as an oil change a few hundred miles ago. This is a fantastic example of a lower mileage RSX Type-S that has been maturely owned and properly maintained. We are excited to find a new owner to care for it for years to come.
The exterior of this RSX is in excellent condition and is definitely the highlight of this car. The Vivid Blue Pearl Paint is very glossy with few imperfections. All VIN tags are present on all panels aside from the front bumper, which has been replaced. The body is straight, and all panel gaps are even. There are a handful of shallow door dings, but no notable scratches or significant dents. The front bumper has some cracking in the paint from flexing, as well as some scuffing on the underside. The rear bumper looks great. The glass is all clear and crack-free; the windshield has minor pitting. The headlights are slightly oxidized; the taillights, side markers, and fog lights are clear and crack-free. The summer wheels are wearing Cooper Zeon RS3-A tires with good tread; they have no curb rash. It also includes a set of winter tires mounted on OEM RSX 16-inch wheels.
Overall the interior is also in very good shape. The carpets are clean and free of stains and have been protected by all-weather floor mats; carpeted floormats are also included. The seats are in great shape; the front bolsters have moderate creasing. The rear seats are excellent. The 3-spoke steering wheel has moderate wear. All instrument displays function properly; no check or warning lights are illuminated. The OEM Bose stereo sounds great and has no failed pixels. The heat blows warm and the air-conditioning blows cold. The center console has some minor scratches, but still presents very well. The shift knob is clean. All interior functions work as they should; the windows, sunroof, cruise control, and power mirrors. The trunk carpet is in good shape. All owner’s manuals are included with sale.
The brilliant thing about the RSX is Acura’s renowned quality and reliability. The K20 engine fires on command, idles smoothly, and pulls strongly to its stratospheric 8000 RPM redline! The VTEC functions correctly and engages with a kick in the pants at 5800 RPM. It does not leak or spot. The shifter is crisp and tight—something Honda always does right. The transmission shifts smoothly. The clutch take-up is correct, and it does not slip, thanks to recent replacement. There are no driveline or wheel bearing noises or vibrations. The suspension is firm with the lowering springs, but still compliant enough for comfortable daily driving. The front brakes have been recently replaced. We pay for and ensure it passes emissions in the State of Colorado.
