If you are like me, you think that modern cars are too big, too heavy, and too complicated—all of which detract from the driving experience. BMW is one of the guiltiest offenders of this trend, but in 2008 it threw purists like myself a bone in the form of the 1 Series. Heralded as the spiritual successor of the iconic 2002, the 1 Series was smaller than its 3 Series sibling, but, because it was a BMW, it did not compromise on power, luxury, or a sporting driving experience. Excluding the 1 Series M Coupe, the most potent 1 Series was the 135i with the M Sport Package. Face-lifted 2011 and later 135i’s came with the N55 twin-scroll turbocharged engine, a more reliable evolution of the twin turbocharged N54 engine. The platform was so good that BMW used a tuned variant of it (the N54) in the 1 M Coupe. In addition to cosmetic upgrades, the 135i M Sport Package included an M 3-spoke steering wheel, 18-inch Style 261 M Double Spoke wheels, and 15mm lower suspension. The virtually lag-free twin-scroll turbo power coupled with the lightning-fast shifting of the 7-speed M dual-clutch transmission (DCT) makes the 135i a seriously fast car. In convertible form, it is a stylish sleeper that allows spectacular views of the Colorado landscape, paired to the unobstructed exhaust soundtrack of that N55 screaming to redline. Relatively limited production numbers and its replacement in the U.S. market by the 2 Series ensure that the 1 Series will be a future collectable. The time to get one is now, when pristine, low mileage examples are still available.
I am selling this Alpine White over Beige leather 2011 BMW 135i (E88) Convertible M Sport on consignment for a friend. In addition to the M Sport Package, it is very well optioned with the Premium Package, heated seats, adaptive xenon headlights, Bluetooth, navigation, voice command, and a host of other amenities outlined above and in the VIN decode. The Alpine White over Beige leather color combo is perfect for a convertible, keeping the inside and outside temperatures civilized on those hot summer days. It was originally delivered by Gebhardt BMW on March 24, 2011 and remained with the first owner for the next five years, always being dealer serviced. It changed hands once before the current owner purchased it, who has also had it maintained either by Gebhardt or independent BMW specialists. All recalls have been complied with and it comes with all records organized in a 3-ring binder, the factory window sticker, a clean Carfax, two key FOBs, and all owners’ manuals. The leading edges of the hood, fenders, headlights, and mirrors are protected by ClearBra. The exterior is nearly flawless. The only notable defects are a small dime-sized impression on the rear bumper cover and a faint door ding on the very aft portion of the passenger door. Both take some scrutiny to locate, and neither detracts from the overall appearance of the car. The interior is virtually perfect. Mechanically it has no issues. The fluids have always been changed more frequently than dealer service intervals and no common 1 Series or N55 issues are present. There are no codes, no warning lights, no oil leaks, no wastegate rattle, no high or low-pressure fuel delivery issues, and no evidence of carbon build up. As it sits, this is a turn-key 135i M Sport ready to be driven and enjoyed by its new owner. We would like to find a buyer who will enjoy, care for it, and appreciate it for years to come.
