The 991-generation Porsche 911 was a dramatic leap in the evolution of Porsche’s most defining model. Released in 2012, the new 991 featured extensive aluminum construction that improved rigidity while keeping the curb weight nearly identical to the outgoing 997. The wheelbase was lengthened and the engine shifted forward to improve weight distribution. Power came from a 350-horsepower 3.4-liter engine in the Carrera and a 400-horsepower 3.8-liter engine in the Carrera S. Both were direct fuel injection (DFI) and suffered none of the IMS or cylinder bore scoring maladies of the 997 and 996 generations. Gearboxes consisted of 7-speed manual or 7-speed PDK dual-clutch units, the latter being so good that it significantly closed the gap between two and three pedals—even for the hardcore enthusiast. An updated and highly refined interior with extensive options that could nearly double the base purchase price in some combinations rounded out the package. In fact, the 991 is so good that even our own diehard older-is-better air-cooled tendencies melted away like a sandcastle in the high tide after just one drive!
This 2013 991.1 911 Carrera Cabriolet, finished in Agate Gray Metallic over Black Standard leather, is a highly optioned example with only 34,900 miles. The options list is extensive, highlights of which include; the 7-Speed PDK gearbox, Sport Chrono Plus Package (including Dynamic Engine Mounts), Sport Exhaust, Premium Package, 14-way Heated and Ventilated Sport Seats (a must for a Cabriolet), Heated Steering Wheel, Bose Audio Package, and 20-inch Carrera Classic wheels. In addition to the heated and ventilated seats, the power wind deflector and Acoustic Package (more sound deadening) make the Cabriolet a very civilized place—both with the top up or down. The 991’s ultra-rigid chassis allows a top-down experience, with nearly the rigidity of the Coupe.
According to the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, this 911 had a build date of 7/17/2012 with an MSPR of $115,840.00 (in 2012 dollars). It was originally delivered in the spring of 2013 by New Country Porsche of Greenwich, Connecticut and was regularly serviced there through the first two owners. In 2017, at 17,880 miles, it was sold to the previous owner in Rancho Palos Verdes, California as a Porsche Certified Pre-Owned vehicle. It was serviced at Porsche of South Bay and independent specialists Swiss Motors in California (the latter are good friends and how it found its way to us). The Carfax details extensive service by New Country Porsche, and invoices from its time in California are included in the records binder. In addition to regular oil changes, notable work includes the WLA4 heat shield retrofit, WLC8 tank leak diagnostic module, and front and rear brake pads, rotors, and sensors (the latter done in March of this year). The Carfax is clean and it has never been in an accident. As it sits, this is a turn-key 991 ready to be enjoyed by its new owner.
Overall, the Agate Gray Metallic paint is in excellent condition and indicative of its low mileage. It paint gauges at 4.3 to 4.9 mils over all metal surfaces and the paint is original with the exception of the front and rear bumper covers. Close scrutiny reveals minor imperfections in the form of small rock chips (much less than a typical Colorado car), a few light scratches, and an area of previous paint-less-dent repair in the passenger rear fender. The convertible top has minimal wear with only two small spots on the fold above the rear window glass. The VIN sticker is present, as is the maintenance logbook sticker. All trim is present and in good shape. The windshield is crack-free, with one large pit to the right of the driver’s field of view. There is very minor pitting elsewhere (also much less than a typical Colorado car). The side and rear glass are in excellent shape. The headlights, markers, and taillight lenses are all in excellent condition. The rear spoiler functions correctly. The wheels have no notable curb rash and are wrapped in Pirelli P Zero tires with a minimum of 5/32s tread remaining and 2016/2017 DOT codes. They do not need immediate replacement, but we would plan on it in the not-so-distant future.
The Black Standard interior with leather accents are very nice and have clearly been properly cared for. The 991 interior is built of much more durable materials than the 996 and 997, and this one is very nice inside. There are no odors and it has never been smoked in. The carpet does not have any rips or tears, and the factory floor mats are presentable. The driver’s side door sill has slight wear from entry and egress. The dashboard is very nice and the cup holders function correctly; there is a large scratch on the cupholder cover. The instrument and multimedia screens have no blown-out pixes and no warning lights. All functions work correctly. The steering wheel leather is soft with only slight wear. The shifter and center console have no notable flaws. The seats are in excellent shape other than very slight wear on the driver’s seat outer bolster. The rear seats are in excellent condition. The frunk carpet is clean and there are no odors. The owners’ manual booklet is present, as are the certified pre-owned documentation, Certificate of Authenticity and two key FOBs are included.
The Carfax and included maintenance records show regular and frequent services throughout this 991’s life. It had an inspection, oil service, and brakes replaced in preparation for sale by Swiss Motors. The engine starts on command, idles smoothly, and pulls very strongly to redline (once the oil temperature is warmed up). There are no warning lights. It has no leaks or seeps. The PDK gearbox shifts smoothly and is an exceptional unit. The brakes are wonderful, having been recently replaced. The suspension bushings are tight and the suspension strikes a wonderful balance between compliance and sport. We ensure it passes and pay for emissions in the State of Colorado. We look forward to finding a new owner who will enjoy and care for it for years to come.
