In 1976 Volkswagen shoehorned an up-rated engine into its economic and practical Golf, and the hot-hatch was born. The resulting Golf GTI (Grand Tourer Injection) sacrificed none of the regular Golf’s practicality, while adding a significant performance improvement in an “everyday” package. Other manufacturers followed in the same footsteps, but the iconic Volkswagen GTI was always the best hot-hatch—and forty years later it still is! In 2015 Volkswagen released the Mk7 GTI. Against the backdrop of the heavy, numb, and bloated modern car the GTI has never been more relevant. Few modern cars do everything as well as the GTI does. It is well appointed, powerful, lightweight, nimble, and spirited, yet sacrifices none of the practicality needed in a daily driver. It is one of the few cars that can satisfy the performance desires of the enthusiast while having the space and practicality required for daily duty. The best Mk7 GTIs have the Performance Package, which got you a horsepower bump to 220, a top speed of 155 miles per hour, a torque-vectoring limited-slip differential, and larger 13.4-inch front and 12.4-inch rear vented disc brakes. The biggest game-changer of the Performance Pack is the limited-slip front differential technology called VAQ (Vorderachsquersperre: front axle crossbar), which practically eliminates torque-steer and allows usable traction in inclement weather on both the street and the track. Honoring the high standard set by the GTIs that came before it, there are few modern cars that offer a proper driving experience as pure as the Mk7 Volkswagen GTI.

This 2017 Reflex Silver Metallic GTI SE Performance Pack is an exceptional example with only 4,200 miles. I am no fan of modern cars, but the Mk7 GTI is one of the few that I absolutely love. I took this one in on trade from the original owner and am proud to have it in the Glen Shelly inventory. It is spec’d exactly as I would have ordered it—with the Performance Pack, Adaptive headlights, no sunroof, and the Clark Plaid interior. It is bone-stock and barely broken in—we just had it serviced at Gebhardt Volkswagen with a fresh oil change in preparation for sale. Prior to that it had its actual break-in service at McDonald Volkswagen in Littleton, CO at 1,260 miles. The Carfax is clean and reports two owners, the first of which was a dealer transfer. The condition is virtually perfect, with no notable or glaring cosmetic or mechanical defects. There is one small spot of curb rash on one of the wheels and a few very minor pits in the front bumper cover. It is a Colorado car, that comes with a clean Carfax, two key FOBs, and all owners manuals.
