The BMW M2 was the olive branch that BMW offered to enthusiasts who felt that M cars had become too big, too heavy, and too disconnected. Oh what an olive branch is was! The M2 restored our faith with plentiful power, supreme handling, excellent manners, impeccable communication, and retina-separating brakes in a just-the-right-size package. An aggressively flared exterior and well-appointed interior completed the package of what BMW declared the spiritual successor of the iconic 2002tii. Journalists (including this one) were skeptical of that claim, as the E46 M3 was the most relevant comparison—which is not a bad thing. Nonetheless, the M2 was proof that BMW could still build a proper M car, despite the lack of an S preceding its motor designation. The M-DCT transmission machine gun fires shifts so rapidly and so intuitively that even staunch three-pedal curmudgeons (like myself) will relinquish their cold dead grasp on the traditional gearbox, but you can still get a third pedal if desired. Yes, the M2 really is that good. If you haven’t driven one, you should—but be careful because you might just drive it home. It’s one of the few new BMWs that I would own myself, which is why we have one in the hangar.
This 2018 Long Beach Blue M2 has just over 1,000 miles. It was delivered to a friend of mine who is now selling it to take delivery of a 991 Porsche GT3. It is as pristine as they come, and has been outfitted with extensive clear bra protectant and a hard-wired Valentine One radar detector mount behind the mirror. It has always been driven gently, and still has one hundred miles to go before the initial break-in fluid service. As it sits it makes one of the best buys in the M2 market. It has already taken the initial drive-it-off-the-lot depreciation hit, but is in identical condition to one that hasn’t. His loss (if you can call a 991 GT3 a loss) is your gain. It is well optioned with the Executive Package and the M DCT transmission in addition to the host of standard features M2 features. Both FOBs are included, along with the factory floor mats, BMW cargo net, all owners manuals, and the original window sticker. The factory warranty is in place. Its condition is so good that my normal Exterior, Interior, and Mechanical paragraphs can be summed up in one word: pristine. We would like to find a new enthusiast who will appreciate and enjoy it for the next chapter. We do not offer in-house financing, but it is priced to sell.
