Upon its release in 2018, the second-generation 8 Series overtook the 7 Series as BMW’s flagship model. Available in a coupe, convertible, and a Gran Coupe four-door sedan, the 8 Series added significant athleticism to the top-shelf opulence in BMW’s sporting luxury niche. The G14/15/16 generation 8 Series’ elegant lines were well-received by the motoring world, paying tribute to the original Rad-era E31 8 Series. Across the model range, options were plentiful, showcasing BMW’s technology and performance. In 2019, the M8 was released, which was followed by the M8 Competition and the Alpina B8. But, for the money, the sweet-spot 8 Series is the M850i, powered by the twin-turbo-charged N63 engine good for 523 horsepower and 533 pound-feet of torque, delivering a 0-60 time of 3.7 seconds. This is not-so-log-ago supercar territory, only .4 seconds slower than its true M brethren. All of this in an all-wheel-drive package that can accommodate four adults in civilized luxury with more technology than a 4th-generation fighter jet. What a fantastic time to own a BMW!
This 2020 Black Sapphire Metallic over two-tone Individual Black and Fiona Red leather M850i xDrive with 32,800 miles is a true flagship-spec example of BMW’s flagship model. The formidable options list is extensive, with highlights consisting of the Piano Black interior trim, Bowers & Wilkins Diamond surround sound system (with illuminated speakers), heads-up display, BMW Driving Assistant Professional autonomous self-driving, BMW Connected Professional package with Apple CarPlay, BMW Laserlight adaptive headlights, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and Comfort keyless access. This example was originally delivered via BMW Palm Springs to Edmond, Oklahoma. It remained there until it was purchased by the current owner, who brought it to Colorado. A Glen Shelly regular, we are selling it on consignment for him. In preparation for the sale, we completed an inspection and oil service. All maintenance is current, with brake pads and rotors probably due in another 10K miles. Maintenance records from the current and previous owners are included. The cosmetic condition is exceptional and consistent with age and mileage; all paint gauges at original depths. The Carfax reports minor damage, which happened under the current owner when he hit a pothole and had both driver’s wheels replaced by insurance. There was no body or suspension damage; the invoice is included in the records. Considering mileage, options, and condition, we priced it as the best M850i xDrive on the market.
